Media Overload

In one day I saw something in the media that disgusted me and some stuff that looked quite promising.

On the one hand, I was unfortunate enough to catch the MTV program "Sweet Sixteen." I couldn't stop watching. It was like a train wreck. A big, whiny, selfish, spoiled, disgusting, 16-year-old, female train wreck. Actually, re-reading that sentence is a pretty accurate description of the show. In a nutshell, the young woman featured had a party that will cost more than my first home. She managed to personify sluttiness and naiveté to a pathetic degree. I guess you can’t blame the girl for being conceited—she did get a brand new BMW the same day she failed her permit test. Yuck. Anyway…

I had the pleasure of seeing a good movie in the theater tonight. Accompanied by my dear friend Ainsley and her lovely sister, Dana, we took in the new Reese Witherspoon flick “Just like Heaven.” It was definitely worth the excruciating price they’re charging for tickets now. Ever the refined group in public, I managed to kick my water bottle over (listening to it roll down the entire theater… always nice) and another one of us (I won’t say who) did manage to snort a few times--- laughter’s good for you right? Anyway, it’s a good flick and a nice escape from the formula romantic comedy that I was growing so tired of.

I was really excited by the previews as well, and this rarely happens. Usually I see previews and I think, “LAME.” On my list of must-sees is “Elizabethtown,” “Dreamer,” “Walk the Line” and “North Country.” I don’t know why I feel this is blog-worthy but if you’ve caught these previews and are as excited as I am, maybe we can catch the flick together--- that is providing you are someone I already know (my apologies to the random visitor, but it would just be awkward… I mean, I don’t know you).

This movie discussion has really put me in the mood for some popcorn. I think I’ll go make some and then maybe start that whole homework thing. Blast--- what a downer that thought is. Wish me luck.
