Tact anyone?

I am so mad.

I used to work for a woman who sent out e-mails to all her employees. I no longer work for said woman but still get emails.

Today I got an email from her -- a MASS email that went to 20 some other people with the company, mind you -- about the termination of another employee. Giving details of why that person was terminated. She did it as a cautionary tale, like remember don't do THIS or I will terminate you.

Okay. This pissed me off for several reasons.

#1 It was completely unnecessary to divulge private information like that. If I am ever fired from a job (lord forbid) I'd like to think my boss would respect me enough to keep the circumstances relatively private. At least not send out a god damn email.

#2 The same email could have been sent asking people "Please do not do A, B, or C as it is bad for the company and could result in termination." NO need to make it personal.

#3 This is primarily an all-female work environment and stupid shit like this reinforces stereotypes that women are bitchy and bad bosses. Why get gossipy with all your other employees about another coworkers behavior? COMPLETELY unprofessional.

I wish I had the balls to send an e-mail back reminding her that this information was none of my business and I really don't care to get e-mails like this in the future. The more sane part of my head (and Tyler) remind me that it is unwise to burn brides. SO I shall keep my mouth shut and scream into the void that is my blog and try to remember there are some positives about my former boss. THIS just wasn't one of them.

Yeah... I work with 34 women (no men) and I feel your pain. My biggest issue with my boss is how unprofessional she is; and yet she's always on us to not gossip or spread negativity. Some of my co-workers think that if we just had a few guys the drama would settle down, but I think it would just get worse as all the women vied for the attention of all the men. It's a pretty anti-feminist view point for me to take, but when I go into that place I feel pretty anti-feminist... it's hard to be one with all the hardcore anti-feminism stereotypes being reinforced right in front of me. :)

She should be fired for that, it's confidential information. I have a manager like that, I told you about her, and she was told if she does it again she will lose her job.

I thought she should be fired too but I've asked a few people and they said it's not technically illegal. But it should be.

Adrienne -- I am so bummed to hear that. I would like to think women could work together better than that,
